REACH BEYOND THE FOUR CORNERS OF FRAMED ART...

“The procedure, methods, and tools I use in creating my art are as unique as the art itself. Therein lies the pleasure of my work… in the creative experience.”

John Running has been happily creating his way through life. From his first sketches to his most recent contemporary rock art designs, John has designed, drawn, created, sculpted, painted, and produced his way to recognition.

John’s artistic roots run deep, attributed to a family tree filled with creative entrepreneurs. His father established a publishing business highlighting his own line of art, prints, and cards, which were produced in his studio and sold around the country. The road trips with his parents exposed John to many of the greatest sights and sensations in the country and left a lasting impression. Time spent in national parks, hikes in the mountains, exploring the deserts of the Southwest, visits to off-the-road cultural sites, and get-a-ways in the family’s mountain cabin added to his respect and awe of the natural wonders of North America. His adventures also instilled a growing appreciation of Native American culture and art.

“Resident creator” for his peers seemed to always be the norm. During his formal art training he resisted the limitations of conventional instruction, preferring to tinker on his own and develop new techniques and formulas. Later, for many years as production manager and partner in his family’s art business, John created many of the products and artsy pieces they sold nationally. He also designed most of the unique tools and equipment used to produce their artwork.

In 1986 John established his own studio in beautiful Paso Robles, California, and continues to enjoy national recognition for his creative rock art designs.
